It may be August, but it looks a bit like Christmas at the warehouse in Waterloo and at the church in Cambridge.
Volunteers are assembling and checking a bunch of brands --
New backpacks are available here, each filled with fresh pencils, notebooks, geometric instruments and other backpacks --to-School supplies.
Cathy McDonald said, \"they\'re like Santa\'s elves --\"
Reis, a member of the board with a smile from send\'em Off.
The group ensures that more than 1,200 schoolchildren from poor families in the Waterloo area look the same as others --
The first day of school is important.
Each child has a backpack full and a new set of clothes and a pair of shoes that are bought by the donor.
McDonald\'s said the total cost of the entire package averaged $100
Reis is a volunteer for the organization but works as a social worker at a local Catholic school.

Helping the food bank, in addition to not providing clothing, did the same for more than 1,000 other children.
The backpack will be packed and delivered later this month from Calvary Pentecost Church.
\"We don\'t want children to be defaced,\" said Pattiesue Simsons, family outreach staff at the food bank.
\"Some families can\'t afford what children need to go to school, and schools don\'t.
\"Supplies are still needed in Cambridge, including Binder, inner lining and white paper, scientific and general calculator, math set, pencil crayons, markers, crayons, pens, pencils and glue sticks.
These must be new and can be in 54 Ainslie St.
In Galt, Cambridge.
Any Cambridge or North Dumfries families who need help are welcome to apply for a backpack with the food bank.
As for smiling farewell, it is accepting cash donations at this time, not supplies, and not referrals directly from the family.
Instead, the organization heard from teachers or principals in the spring about families that might need help and sent an application form to families.
Then, give the size and footprint of the child to the donor, who is filled with backpacks to buy clothes.
High school students make up a small part of the grantee who can get gift vouchers to pick their own outfits.
Most students are primary school students.
